Move your DJ library between rekordbox, Serato and Traktor
Updated
The music copies across in minutes. Years of cues, beatgrids and playlists are the part worth protecting, and the part each app stores in its own way.
The quick way: bring your library into Fadero once, then rekordbox, Serato DJ and Traktor all sync from it, with cues and grids kept. Here's how.
Moving with Fadero
- Install the desktop app for Windows or Mac and sign in.
- Bring in the library you have. Point it at your rekordbox 6 or 7, Serato DJ 4 or 5, or Traktor library. It comes in as it is: tracks, beatgrids, cues, loops and playlists.
- Let Fadero analyse it. Every track gets its BPM, beatgrid, key and phrases, and Needs attention lists tracks missing information, with a fix for each.
- Connect the other app and sync. Close it first: Fadero writes its library while it's closed, and backs it up before every sync.
- Check a few tracks in the other app: cues, grids and your playlists.
That's it. Keep using both apps: change a cue in one and the next sync carries it to the other. It isn't a one-off copy.
| App | Syncs both ways |
|---|---|
| rekordbox 6 and 7 | Track details, beatgrids, hot cues and memory cues, loops, tags and playlists |
| Serato DJ 4 and 5 | Track details, beatgrids, hot cues, saved loops, track colours and crates |
| Traktor | Track details, ratings, colours, keys, beatgrids, hot cues, loops, memory cues, playlists and folders |
Sync runs from the desktop app for Windows and Mac. Your DJ app (rekordbox, Serato DJ or Traktor) needs to be closed while it writes, and its library is backed up before every sync. Engine DJ and VirtualDJ are coming.
Why moving a library is hard, and how Fadero handles it
- Every app stores cues and grids its own way. Fadero reads and writes each app's own library, so they arrive as cues and grids, not notes to redo.
- MP3 timing differs between apps. rekordbox and Serato don't start an MP3 at quite the same point, so a cue copied by its time alone lands a few milliseconds off, enough to make a grid flam. Fadero corrects the timing for each app as it syncs.
- Not every app has a place for everything. Serato has no memory cues, ratings or tags, and Traktor has no tags. Fadero keeps them in your master library and leaves the app's copy alone, so nothing is lost on the way through.
- Smart lists don't translate. Each app's smart playlists stay with the app that made them.

Other ways
- By hand: add your music to the new app, let it analyse, rebuild playlists, then check every grid and set every cue again. On a big library that's days of work.
- A converter tool: a one-off copy. As soon as you prep in either app, the two libraries drift apart again.
